DETR's Leadership
DETR
Director: Frank Woodbeck
Frank Woodbeck,
Director of DETR, was appointed in September, 2011 by Governor Brian
Sandoval. In this role, Woodbeck is responsible for the daily
operations of four divisions with a staff of 1,070. DETR
encompasses the Employment Security Division, Rehabilitation Division,
Equal Rights Commission, the Research and Analysis Bureau and the
Information Development and Processing Division. These divisions
are responsible for administering unemployment insurance benefits
program, employment and training through the Nevada JobConnect and
providing employment services for people with disabilities. The
department also includes the Equal Rights Commission which is
responsible for investigating complaints of discrimination in the
workplace.
DETR Deputy Director:
Dennis Perea
Dennis
Perea, Deputy Director for DETR, is
charged with overseeing the department's workforce development
initiatives in support of the state's demand-driven business
occupations. Mr. Perea has responsibility for ensuring quality
delivery of the state's employment and training, and enforcement
programs. He has executive oversight of the Nevada Equal
Rights Commission, Vocational Rehabilitation Division, Research and
Analysis, operations and financial management, as well as human
resources and public affairs support services. He previously
served as Administrator for the Equal Rights Commission. He began
his employment with the State of Nevada in January of 2007, working for
DETR as the Chief Internal Auditor.
After his
enlistment in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Perea graduated from Southern Utah
University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Management
Information Systems.
Administrator for the Employment Security Division
Renee Olson
Renee Olson serves as Administrator
of the Employment Security Division.
Currently she is charged with oversight
of a variety of employment and training programs including Wagner Peyser,
WIA, Trade and VETS.
Ms. Olson's’ office is located in Carson
City.
Chief Economist for
the Research and Analysis Bureau: William Anderson

William Anderson has
served as Chief Economist for the Research and Analysis Bureau since
October 2006. In this position he supervises the labor market and
economic research activities of a staff of 30; administers the Bureau’s
$4 million budget and provides useful analyses to departmental senior
staff, other executive branch managers, public policymakers, the general
public, and the media. Mr. Anderson earned his Master’s Degree from
Wayne State University and his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of
Michigan. Mr. Anderson’s office is located in Carson City.
Administrator for the Nevada Equal
Rights Commission: Shelley Chinchilla
Shelley
Chinchilla serves as Administrator to the Nevada Equal Rights Commission
(NERC).
As Administrator,
Mrs. Chinchilla oversees the processing of employment discrimination
complaints relating to race, national origin, color, religion, sex,
sexual orientation, age (over 40), disability,
and gender identity or expression, as well as complaints of discrimination in public accommodations and
housing. The Nevada Equal Rights Commission has offices in Sparks and Las Vegas, and Mrs. Chinchilla oversees a staff of 15
from both offices. She also provides outreach training to
companies and community groups to help equip them to prevent
discrimination. Mrs. Chinchilla has worked for the State for
nearly six years, with five of those at NERC. Mrs. Chinchilla graduated from Park University with a B.A. in Communication Arts,
and a Journalism Minor degree. She graduated with honors; Magna Cum
Laude. Mrs. Chinchilla was one of only 3 percent of applicants
chosen to join the United States Peace Corps in 1998.
Administrator for the
Rehabilitation Division: Maureen Cole
Maureen
Cole was
appointed Administrator of the Rehabilitation Division in August 2010.
Ms. Cole was promoted from the acting administrator position, and, prior
to that was the Deputy Administrator of the Nevada Equal Rights Commission.
As
administrator, Ms. Cole oversees Nevada’s vocational rehabilitation and
blind enterprise programs which seek to improve employment
opportunities for people with disabilities. She also oversees the
state's determination of claims for Social Security disability and
supplemental security income. Ms. Cole obtained her BA in History and
Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, and her JD from
Lewis and Clark Law School. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in
Venezuela, South America
Administrator for the Information
Development and Processing Division: Dave Haws
Dave
Haws serves as the Information Development and Processing Division
Administrator. In this capacity he oversees information technology and
automated computing activities for DETR. These activities include
maintaining the DETR telecommunication network, supporting production
databases and business applications, managing the hardware
infrastructure, and completing strategic technology projects. Prior to
joining DETR in 2003, Dave consulted and managed technology units and
projects in the private and public sectors. Mr. Haws obtained a
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Boise State
University, Boise Idaho with an emphasis in accounting and data
processing. Mr. Haws’ office is located in Carson City.
