Workforce Connections (Southern Nevada)

Southern Nevada Youth
Youth in Southern Nevada,
including those both in school and out of school, at-risk
youth, and those who had been involved in the criminal
justice system, were given a variety of opportunities to
develop job readiness skills, leadership and relationship
building skills, mentoring skills, and entrepreneurial
skills, in food, retail,
Clerical, automotive, computer lab, culinary and
horticulture, Graphic Arts and Web Design, Video Production
and Journalism. In
many cases training included a
period of summer work experience from a variety of
vocational experiences that met the individual client’s
interests and abilities. Also offered were
GED Preparation,
work
readiness training, life skills training, becoming
employable, HIV SLICK program, Season of Discovery/Nursing
Connections, Community Health Worker Training Program, and
National Career Readiness Certificate.

Southern Nevada Adult Programs
Southern Nevada Adult Participants include adults with
challenges including physical, intellectual, and emotional
disabilities, homeless, citizens at risk, unemployed or
underemployed adults, dislocated workers, seniors, veterans,
hard to employ adults, and low income individuals residing
in risk communities. They receive skills training including
individualized educational and vocational assessment,
occupational and career counseling, job search and placement
assistance. Programs offer resource tools and support
ranging from self service resources for job ready applicants
to intensive service or occupational training, work
readiness training, soft skills training, employer
partnership projects, supportive services, job search
assistance, mentoring,
career skill training,
transportation and case management.

Dislocated Workers
These programs target unemployed and underemployed, at-risk
and disadvantaged individuals, especially those located in
the at-risk zones of the city. The program partners offer
job search assistance, resume writing and interviewing
skills courses/assistance, computer on-line application
access, transportation to/from work utilizing public
transportation and ongoing employment, financial/budget
counseling to enhance the clients’ chances of retaining self
sufficiency through employment, case management, mentoring,
individualized career counseling, job referrals and
placement assistance, paid work experiences, paid OJT
training, relocation assistance, job fairs, work readiness
workshops, employer seminars, and town hall meetings.

Northern Nevada Youth
Youth in Northern Nevada, including

Adult Programs
Adult clients in Northern and rural
Nevada receive
training
in workforce
readiness, career exploration, culinary/food services
supporting Nevada’s gaming, tourism and resort industries,
computer technology preparing for careers in Nevada’s
manufacturing and distribution industries, art, media and
education preparing for careers supporting Nevada’s cultural
environment, schools and libraries. Additionally, they
receive training in fabrication to support producing green
energy products, practical computer technician skills,
workforce readiness training, health care training, green
technology, solar energy, construction-alternative energy,
corrections management, lean manufacturing implementation
and training, as well as entry level workplace Spanish.
There
are also programs to award clients a Certificate in
Addiction Treatment for individuals as a Certified Alcohol
and Drug Counselor (CADC) or a Graduate Emphasis in
Addiction Treatment for individuals seeking employment as a
Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LADC) in Nevada.
